The Jardim do Paço Interpretation Centre is located in Castelo Branco, on Rua Bartolomeu da Costa. Situated in the historic Sé area, this space benefits from a central position in the city, immersed in its traditional urban environment.
This centre serves as an essential starting point for deepening knowledge about the Jardim do Paço, one of Castelo Branco's most significant heritage sites. Through its facilities, the centre unveils the garden's evolution and historical journey, inviting visitors to a broader understanding of its cultural and aesthetic value throughout the centuries.
Inside the Interpretation Centre, it is possible to observe a collection of original pieces that once formed an integral part of the Jardim do Paço. These findings, recovered during conservation and research works, provide direct contact with the garden's original aesthetics and composition, allowing a close-up view of elements that testify to its past grandeur and ornamentation.
The restoration of the building housing the Interpretation Centre allowed for the highlighting and visibility of the arches of an old walkway. This architectural structure is historically relevant as it served as a direct link between the Jardim do Paço and the former Horticultural Gardens. Historical records indicate that this Walkway was covered and offered a discreet and private passage for the Bishop, underscoring its importance and the uniqueness of his journey between the two spaces.
