The Segura Biodiversity Interpretation Centre is located in the town of Segura, in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, and is situated in the heart of the Tejo Internacional Natural Park. Its position is strategic, in the area of Zebreira and Segura, marking a natural border with Spain, and it is close to the impressive Roman Bridge of Alcántara, a notable landmark of the region.
This centre is dedicated to exploring the rich biodiversity and varied habitats that characterize the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova. Through multimedia equipment and interactive tools, visitors can delve into the knowledge of the fauna and flora species that inhabit the area. The exhibition route also reveals the importance of rock formations and topography as a support for life, showcasing local rocks and fossils, as well as the materials that historically shaped the region's constructions.
One of the distinctive features of the Segura Biodiversity Interpretation Centre is the opportunity to observe, in real-time, the birds that inhabit the cliffs of the Erges river. Through monitors, visitors can follow life in the nests of emblematic species such as the Black Stork and the Griffon Vulture, captured by strategically placed cameras. This space also serves as a starting point for those wishing to explore biodiversity trails outdoors, providing information on hiking routes in the area, including the "Mines Route."
