The Casa do Rossio Interpretation Centre is located in the village of Lardosa, part of the municipality of Castelo Branco. It is situated on Travessa do Rossio, an area that preserves the essence of the village's ancient urban fabric. Its location contributes to an immersive experience in the environment that once characterized this place.
Dedicated to "Experiences of Other Times…", this centre serves as a guardian of the memories and rural life that shaped the parish of Lardosa. Through a collection of objects and tools, it offers a portrayal of the traditions, trades, and activities that marked the daily lives of the population. It is a reference point for local identity, allowing for an understanding of the customs and history of a community deeply connected to the land.
The genesis of this space lies in the rehabilitation of three contiguous buildings, part of Lardosa's old urban structure. During the intervention, the Castelo Branco Municipal Council ensured the preservation of the original facades, built with dressed granite stonework, which attest to the local architectural richness. In one of the openings, the date of 1682 is visibly highlighted, a historical note that underscores the antiquity of the complex. The rehabilitation allowed for the internal union of these three properties, also incorporating an annexed communal oven, an integral part of this complex for preserving local heritage.
The exhibition is spread across two floors, designing a thematic route that transports the visitor through various facets of rural life. The circuit begins with the recreation of a Tavern, a social space once present on this site. On the upper floor, the sections dedicated to Farm Work are explored, with particular emphasis on the cultivation of Black-eyed peas, a distinctive agricultural activity of the parish. This is followed by the Skills and Tastes and Arts and Crafts sections, which reveal the competencies and artisanal productions of bygone eras. The journey culminates in the representation of rural domestic daily life, with the reconstruction of a kitchen and a bedroom, offering an intimate glimpse into the past way of life.
