Built in the 16th century, the Chapel of Mercy of Álvaro was remodeled in the 17th century, reflecting a mixture of architectural styles.
It presents an irregular rectangular plan, composed of a nave, chancel, and sacristy. Its main facade is marked by a late-Renaissance portal and an adorned window.
The interior of the chapel is adorned with gilded carved altarpieces, representing the national Baroque style. Also noteworthy are the false barrel vault ceilings and the Stations of the Cross panels.
Among the most notable works are a Dead Christ, images of saints, and a sculpture representing Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus.
The chapel exhibits influences from the Philippine period, visible in the ceiling decoration and the Stations of the Cross panels.
Recognized as a Property of Municipal Value, the Chapel of Mercy of Álvaro is a significant historical attraction in the region, revealing important details of local history and sacred art.
