The atelier is located on Rua dos Pinheiros, in the village of Maravil, in the municipality of Sertã. Surrounded by pine and olive groves, it harmoniously integrates with the typical housing of Cernache do Bonjardim.
The surrounding environment is tranquil and rural, offering visitors an authentic perspective of the Beira interior landscape, with gentle elevations and the autumnal colours of the vegetation.
Commissioned by Túlio Vitorino's father, a cork merchant, soon after the establishment of the Republic (1910), the building served as the painter's residence and atelier, reflecting the artist's family and creative life.
Túlio da Costa Vitorino (1896–1969) trained at the Fine Arts Schools of Lisbon and Porto, developing an impressionistic style under the influence of Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro and José Malhoa, engaging sensitively with the landscapes around him.
The atelier's design follows a moderate Neo-Arabic revivalism, evident in the turret's double windows and the horseshoe arch framing the interior doors, highlighted by Mozarabic-inspired tiles.
In the main hall, a generous flood of light stands out through iron-framed openings, on which Túlio painted an original Greek fret, combining decorative tradition and functionality.
After a period of degradation, the property was acquired and redeveloped by the Sertã Municipal Council, being inaugurated on September 12, 2008, as the Túlio Vitorino Cultural Space, with the rigorous conservation of the exterior tiles, garden, and well.
Classified as a Monument of Municipal Interest in March 2023, the atelier annually hosts exhibitions dedicated to Túlio Vitorino and other notable painters, providing direct contact with local artistic history.
