Built in the 18th century, the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was part of the now-vanished manor house of the Carneiro Vasconcelos family, revealing itself as a testament to the region's rich architectural heritage.
The main portal is impressive, featuring pilasters that support a pediment adorned with volutes. This pediment is interrupted by the figure of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to whom the chapel is dedicated.
Inside the chapel, there is a notable organ dating from the year 1743, adding a musical and artistic element to the visitor experience.
The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a reflection of the growth of the village of Torre de Moncorvo in the 18th century. During this period, the village witnessed a significant population increase, territorial expansion, and the construction of new buildings.
In the 18th century, the religious setting of the village expanded considerably. In addition to the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the village housed two churches, a friary, a female retreat, the Church of Mercy, the hospital chapel, and fifteen other chapels.
The chapel was part of a group of manor houses built in the 18th century that document the growth of the village and the presence of the local nobility. Like the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, these buildings bear witness to the history and influence of the aristocracy in the region.
The chapel is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, representing an important place of devotion and spirituality. Visitors can appreciate the sacred art and explore the connection between faith and the architecture of the time.
