The Archaeology Museum Room is located in the building of Mogadouro's Town Hall. This central position in the town facilitates access for visitors, placing it directly within the main civic core of the locality, in the municipality of Mogadouro, Bragança district.
This museum space was created in the late 1980s with a fundamental objective: to preserve, study, and disseminate the archaeological heritage found in the Mogadouro region. It was born from the need to store the artifacts collected during the archaeological campaigns of the time, ensuring that these cultural assets were safeguarded and accessible, thus contributing to the preservation of the collective memory of the territory.
Inside the Museum Room, it is possible to observe a collection of pieces that serve as direct testimonies of the cultures that inhabited this area throughout time. The collection includes findings dating from Prehistory, through Protohistory, up to the Roman period. Each artifact, which one day was an object of daily use for our ancestors, offers a glimpse into the way of life, customs, and knowledge of these ancient communities.
A particular highlight of the collection is the significant set of Roman funerary steles. These inscribed stones are valuable sources of information about the Roman occupation of the territory. Their study allows us to understand important aspects about the families living at the time, their social organization, and, in some cases, the spatial arrangement. They represent a tangible link with the Roman presence in the Mogadouro region.
