Encircled by the Azibo River valley, this river beach is situated next to the village of Podence, in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros. The sandy area extends along the right bank, with natural lawns that blend harmoniously with the rocky shores of the almocreve.
The landscape is enveloped by gentle cork oak hills, where cork oaks and holm oaks draw silhouettes against the sky. The Transmontana light accentuates the warm colors of the earth and the countryside, creating a serene setting by the reservoir.
The body of water was created by the construction of the Azibo dam, built at the end of the 20th century to regulate the river's flow. This hydraulic development transformed the old stream into an artificial lake, giving the place a new dynamic for leisure and biodiversity conservation.
Over the years, the space has gained discreet signage and safety equipment, preserving its riverside identity and respecting the ecosystem. It is an example of landscape reconversion, where human intervention coexists with aquatic fauna and natural banks.
The clear water allows glimpses of small shoals of fish near the bank, while designated areas ensure the tranquility of those seeking a quieter swim. The alternation of sandy and grassy areas offers shaded spots under isolated trees, ideal for spreading out a towel and enjoying the place's calm.
On the horizon, the line of hills undulates under the blue sky, making the location perfect for those who appreciate riverside landscapes. The presence of lifeguards reinforces safety, especially for families with children, and ensures an environment of confidence by the river.
