The Pillory occupies a central position in the village of Linhares, in the municipality of Carrazeda de Ansiães. It stands in a small paved square, surrounded by traditional granite buildings and cobbled streets.
The vertical prominence of the column stands out against a backdrop of rural housing, offering a visual landmark in the urban ensemble.
This pillory possibly dates back to the late Middle Ages or the early modern period, when it served as a symbol of the village's justice and autonomy. Its classification as a Property of Public Interest recognizes the role it played in the territorial and judicial organization of Linhares.
Over the centuries, it has remained a testament to local administration, preserving the collective memory of the region's inhabitants.
The monument rests on a polygonal stepped base, upon which rises a cylindrical shaft of coarse-grained granite. The button-shaped finial gives it a simple and austere profile, characteristic of the Trás-os-Montes pillories.
The monochrome appearance of the granite and the uncluttered lines emphasize the solidity and functionality of the ensemble.
In the immediate vicinity, the urban fabric consists of granite houses with wrought-iron balconies and facades painted in soft tones. This setting reinforces the rural and tranquil atmosphere of the location.
The contrast between the rough texture of the pillory and the clear sky of Trás-os-Montes creates an ideal setting for photographs and moments of contemplation.
