The Parque do Império is located in the city of Mirandela, on one of its main arteries. It is situated in a privileged position, extending along the left bank of the Tua River. This location grants it a distinct atmosphere, where the urban environment of the town merges with the tranquility of the river landscape.
The origin of Parque do Império dates back to the mid-19th century, when the area began to be developed as the Alameda do Cardal promenade. Over the decades, this space was progressively expanded and subjected to various requalification interventions. Its current configuration, which combines the serenity of green areas with artistic and functional elements, was achieved after a significant reformulation in the 1990s, making it a consolidated meeting and leisure spot in Mirandela.
Inside Parque do Império, several elements contribute to its identity and attractiveness. The amphitheater, for example, is a natural stage for various cultural events and initiatives. The presence of a luminous fountain offers a visual spectacle, especially after nightfall. Additionally, the park houses bronze sculptures that enrich its pathway, such as the "Bailarinas" (Dancers), dated 1964 and authored by Hélder Batista and António Paiva, and the "Princesa do Tua" (Princess of the Tua), created by José Lamas in 1991, adding an artistic dimension to the visit.
The extensive landscaped areas of Parque do Império, complemented by a well-defined walking circuit, invite moments of tranquility and outdoor conviviality. The proximity and view of the Tua River lend a natural dimension to the space, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll or a moment of pause. It is an environment that lends itself both to peaceful walking and to enjoying the serene atmosphere provided by the river.
