The park's name, Eixo Atlântico (Atlantic Axis), is a tribute to the cross-border association that unites municipalities from Galicia, in Spain, and Northern Portugal. Founded in 1992, this private association aims to foster Euro-regional development. The park's designation in Bragança reflects this philosophy of cooperation and interconnection between regions, giving the place a meaning that goes beyond its recreational purpose.
The design of Eixo Atlântico Park, by Architect Luís Doutel, is characterized by its linear structure. The main area, near Avenida Abade Baçal, is marked by two longitudinal strips of lawn, punctuated by trees arranged in lines or small groups. In the center of these strips, near the walkway, a reflective pool with a fountain stands out, creating a visual focal point. The park develops through different levels and accesses, with paved paths connecting its various zones, from the lower to the upper part, through tree-lined corridors.
The park's vegetation predominantly consists of deciduous tree species, with extensive lawn areas. Among the trees that contribute to the green environment of the place are maples, hackberries, lime trees, poplars, and oaks, many of them planted in groups forming small groves. For visitors' entertainment, the park features a children's playground, a ramp for extreme sports (Half Pipe), and various sculptural elements integrated into the space. Additionally, the park benefits from a pyracantha hedge that delimits the adjacent swimming pool enclosure, contributing to its natural setting.
