The Palácios Rural Museum is located in the village of Palácios, a small settlement in the municipality of Bragança. It is housed in the building of an old olive oil mill, integrated into the rural environment of the village, maintaining a strong connection to its historical and geographical context.
The space that today hosts the museum was, in the past, the village's community olive oil mill, a central place in economic and social life. It was here that inhabitants brought their olive production to be transformed into olive oil, in a shared process that marked the rhythm of an era. The adaptation of this traditional building for museum purposes allowed its structure and symbolic function to be preserved, now giving it new life as a guardian of local memory.
Inside, visitors will find a vast collection of objects and artifacts once used in the daily lives of the population of Palácios and the region. From agricultural tools to household utensils, simple furniture, and other everyday items, each piece was gathered to show how people lived and worked in the past. They are material testimonies of a rural way of life that has transformed over time.
This museum was born from a local initiative to preserve its own history. Many of the exhibited objects were donated or collected within the community itself, representing a joint effort not to let the material and immaterial heritage of past generations fall into oblivion. It is a place where the memories of rural Trás-os-Montes life take shape, and where one can establish a genuine connection with the village's identity.
