This museum center is located in the village of Lavandeira, an integral part of the municipality of Carrazeda de Ansiães. More precisely, it is situated in the area known as Lagar da Lavandeira, in the heart of the village. Its central position allows for direct immersion in the local environment and culture.

The Rescue of a Tradition

The Olive Oil Museum Center, Lagar da Lavandeira represents an important step in the preservation of rural heritage. Opened in April 2015, this space is the result of the recovery of an old olive oil mill and is part of the broader Museum of Rural Memory, which includes several centers distributed throughout the territory. The goal was to create a place where the history and ancestral techniques of olive oil production could be understood and valued by current generations.

The Art of Making Olive Oil

Inside this mill, the complete process of olive oil production, the 'liquid gold,' is unveiled. It is possible to observe traditional techniques, from the reception and cleaning of the olives, grinding, heating, and pressing in a central screw press, to the final decantation phase, where the pure olive oil was separated. The space is designed to demonstrate each stage of the production cycle, providing a detailed understanding of how olive oil was made in past times.
