The Izeda Museological Centre is located in the heart of the village of Izeda, a locality within the municipality of Bragança, in northeast Trás-os-Montes. It is housed in a historical building that once served as an old olive oil mill and, later, as the Casa do Povo (People's House), a central reference point in the community.
Its central location in the village facilitates access and integrates it into local daily life, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere of the settlement while exploring its interior.
Primarily dedicated to the theme of olive oil, this museological centre reflects the historical and economic importance of this production in Izeda, one of the main olive-growing areas of Terra Fria Transmontana. The space, which preserves the structure of an old olive oil mill, invites a journey back in time.
Visitors can observe the operation of the old mills up close, as well as the various objects and tools that were used in the olive oil extraction process. Informative and interpretive panels support the visit, deepening knowledge about this ancient practice and its relevance to the region.
More than a mere repository of artifacts, the Izeda Museological Centre presents itself as a true itinerary for discovering the territory and its people. The permanent exhibition brings together a collection of pieces representative of daily village life, selected to illustrate the various facets of local life.
The exhibition itinerary explores seven thematic areas, ranging from the most private and family sphere (the home, its intimate and social spaces) to the public and economic world, with a focus on crafts, textiles, commerce, trades, and agriculture, including the cultivation of wine, cereals, and honey. The collection integrates both tangible heritage, with agricultural tools and domestic objects, and intangible heritage, through sound testimonies and old photographs, which together allow for an understanding of the way of life of the Izeda population and the evolution of their daily existence in a unique geography.
