Suçães is a locality in the municipality of Mirandela, located in the region known as Terra Quente transmontana. The Ethnographic Museum is situated on the lower floor of the Suçães Parish Council building, integrating directly into the heart of the community and making it an easily accessible point within the village. This location underscores its intrinsic connection to the territory it seeks to portray.
This museum nucleus was designed to showcase the daily life of the villages of Trás-os-Montes, particularly those in Terra Quente, up until the mid-20th century. Through its collections, the museum offers a journey back in time, showing what rural life was like and its dynamics, in a continuous effort to preserve the region's cultural identity. Inaugurated in July 1996, this space is managed by the Suçães Parish Council, reinforcing its local and community dimension.
Along the exhibition route, visitors will find various objects that illustrate the routines and daily activities of yesteryear. One can observe, for example, notable agricultural tools such as threshing machines, reapers, and plows, fundamental elements for the economy and subsistence of the populations. The museum also recreates scenarios, such as the representation of a Transmontana table, which reflects moments of conviviality and rest, and displays various household and work utensils. These artifacts are the result of the generosity of local inhabitants and the municipality, who, through their donations, allowed for the construction of this valuable collection.
