This viewpoint is situated in the Milhais area, in the small village of Abreiro, within the municipality of Mirandela. Erected on a slightly elevated point, it stands next to the ruins of an old hermitage, surrounded by scrubland and cork oaks that stretch across the slopes.
The site offers an unobstructed view of the rural landscape of the Tua valley, with undulating hills disappearing into the horizon. The surroundings maintain the original layout of the terrain, giving it a serene character, little affected by urban intervention.
The shale walls and stonework elements recall the ancient dedication to Saint Catherine, possibly dating back to the 19th century. Although the building is in ruins, it is possible to distinguish the arch of the main entrance and fragments of rendering that bear witness to traditional construction techniques.
This religious vestige now serves as a point of reflection on human presence in the region, preserving memories of religious and community practices that marked local generations.
The surroundings are characterized by Mediterranean vegetation, with thyme and gorse coloring the landscape. In the silence that dominates the viewpoint, only the birds of the field and the wind rustling through the leaves can be heard.
Access is via a rustic trail, ideal for those looking to combine the pleasure of walking or mountain biking/off-roading with direct contact with nature, culminating in a contemplative pause over the Trás-os-Montes territory.
