The Miradouro de Santa Catarina is located in the village of Milhais, in the municipality of Mirandela. It is situated in an elevated position, offering a wide perspective of the surrounding landscape.
From this point, it is possible to contemplate the village of Abreiro, which stretches out in the distance, framed by a panorama reminiscent of an aerial view of the territory. Its location allows for immersion in the natural and rural environment of the region.
At this viewpoint, the remains of an old chapel dedicated to Saint Catherine, which gives it its name, can be found. These ruins are a testament to the historical and religious presence and importance of the site over time.
The Miradouro de Santa Catarina is also known as Poço dos Mouros (Moors' Well), a name that refers to its past as a fortified settlement. Studies indicate that this area was inhabited from the Iron Age up to the Roman period, revealing layers of history that predate the construction of the chapel.
The view from the Miradouro de Santa Catarina is vast and captivating. Upon reaching the highest point, after a small platform, an extensive panorama unfolds, embracing valleys and natural elevations.
The amplitude of the landscape allows for observation of the terrain's configuration and the way nature is drawn, providing a moment of serene contemplation over the Transmontano horizon.
