The Church of Saint John the Baptist is located in the village of Roios, an integral part of the Vila Flor e Pereiros area, within the municipality of Vila Flor. Its position within the urban fabric of Roios makes it a central element and a landmark for visitors to this community, blending harmoniously into the local landscape.
The presence of the church in Roios has origins lost to time, with its initial construction most likely dating back to the Late Middle Ages. This long history underscores its importance and continuous role for the population. The structure we see today is, however, the result of a significant reconstruction intervention, which took place between 1752 and 1762, giving it the design we now know.
Regarding its architecture, the Church of Saint John the Baptist features a plan characterized by a single nave, complemented by a re-entrant chancel and a quadrangular sacristy attached to the main body. Inside, one of the most prominent and noteworthy elements is the painted coffered ceiling, a feature that enriches the space and invites a careful observation of the artistic details present there.
