This church is an integral part of the center of the village of Carrazeda de Ansiães. The building is adapted to the natural slope of the terrain, featuring a front churchyard paved with granite cubes. This space is delimited by a small wall, also made of granite masonry, creating a tranquil environment in the central area of the village.
The Parish Church of Carrazeda de Ansiães presents an interesting blend of architectural styles that reflect different periods of its construction, mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries. Influences of Mannerist, Baroque, and Rococo styles are evident. The building's structure is complex, composed of a main nave, a chancel, a sacristy, an imposing bell tower, and a chapel dating back to the 17th century, known as Capela do Morgado.
The church's main facade, facing west, features reinforced corners with pilasters and is crowned by decorative elements such as flames and pinnacles. The main portal, with its depressed arch and a stone frame adorned with vegetal motifs at its base, displays a cartouche with the date 1790, indicating a significant period of its construction or remodeling. The bell tower, attached laterally, stands out with its bulbous stone dome roof and its curious integration with the facade of the Capela do Morgado, partially overlapping it.
Upon entering the church, one finds a welcoming space. The nave features a wainscot of recent polychromatic tiles that add color to the environment. The flooring is made of granite slabs, a material also present in the baptismal font, situated in a niche. The choir loft, made of wooden structure, is accessible by a spiral staircase.
One of the most interesting points inside is the chancel. Its ceiling, a wooden false vault, is entirely painted with a scene depicting the martyrdom of Saint Agatha, the patron saint. This painting is rich in architectural details in perspective, balustrades, and Rococo decorative elements, creating a striking visual effect. The main altarpiece, from the same period, is a remarkable piece of polychrome and gilded carving, with Corinthian columns and an expository throne in the center.
Adjacent to the nave is the Capela do Morgado, with its walls of exposed granite. On the floor of this chapel, a tombstone with a coat of arms and the date 1614 is visible, marking the antiquity of this space and its connection to D. Francisco Fernandes de Magalhães. The back wall of this chapel features an altarpiece structure of exposed granite, following a Mannerist style.
