Located in the parish of Freixo de Espada à Cinta e Mazouco, in the municipality of Freixo de Espada à Cinta.
It features an impressive Manueline architecture, highlighting the frame of the side door, attributed to the famous architect of the Manueline court, João de Castilho, who lived in the region for two years.
The church has been considered a National Monument since 1910, recognizing its historical and cultural importance.
Inside, you can admire the paintings and part of the decoration of an altarpiece dated between 1520 and 1535, which may have been dismantled during the Baroque period.
The altarpiece is composed of 16 small panels, which depict scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary (Meeting at the Golden Gate, Annunciation, Nativity, Epiphany, Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, Flight to Egypt, Jesus among the doctors and Assumption of Mary) and the Passion of Christ (Last Supper, Christ's Prayer in the Garden, Arrest of Christ, Ecce Homo, Calvary, Lamentation of Christ, Resurrection and Pentecost).
The church is an important historical and artistic symbol of the region, which has survived over the centuries, allowing visitors to appreciate the art and culture of the past.
