The Church of Vila Chã de Braciosa has medieval roots, being mentioned in documents as early as 1258. However, it underwent major renovations in the 18th century, which significantly altered its original structure.
The church was renovated in 1733, as indicated by an inscription engraved on the facade, which marks the date of reconstruction after a long period of modification and improvements.
The church has a simple facade, in a classical style, with a central portal topped by a triangular pediment and a window. The bell tower is located on the right side of the building.
The interior consists of a single nave, with two pointed arches that date back to the original construction. On the side walls, there are altars of gilded and polychrome wood carvings, which contrast with the altarpieces of the chancel arch.
Elevated in relation to the nave, the chancel is dominated by an imposing altarpiece in gilded wood carving, in the Joanine style, which covers the entire back wall of the chapel.
The church is surrounded by a churchyard, where the old cemetery is located, which preserves vestiges of the locality's history. This space is of great interest to visitors who wish to explore the cultural and religious heritage of the region.
