The village of Algosinho is located 14 km from Mogadouro, on a slope near a stream of the same name. The church offers a wide view to the east, encompassing the Douro cliffs and the Spanish landscape.
The Church of Algosinho is a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture, possibly built in the 13th century. Its stone walls display several signs and include elements of Roman funerary slabs. The church entrance is unusual, descending towards the interior, and the presence of natural rock on the floor stands out.
The church is considered one of the oldest in Portugal, with ancient origins dating back to popular legends. Its age is compared to the expression: "it is as old as the church of Algosinho, which nobody knows how old it is".
The church is one of the most beautiful examples of the Romanesque style in the Bragança district, with its striking features and unique architectural details.
Visitors are invited to observe closely the stone walls, elements of Roman tombstones and the unusual descending entrance, in addition to the preservation of natural rocks inside.
The church represents an important historical and cultural landmark in the region, witnessing the history of the village throughout the centuries.
