The Fervença Green Corridor is situated in the city of Bragança, integrated within the urban area of Sé, Santa Maria, and Meixedo. It develops along the banks of the Fervença River, which flows through the locality. One of the banks is flatter and closer to the urban fabric, while the opposite bank reveals a steeper slope and denser vegetation, creating a varied landscape within the same city space.
During the second half of the 20th century, the Fervença riverside environment in Bragança faced significant challenges, having been affected by pollution and waste deposition. However, around the year 2000, through a dedicated environmental requalification program, the river and its banks underwent a profound intervention. This recovery project was crucial for the area's transformation, integrating it as a green space and leisure area in the city and establishing a wastewater treatment system to improve the quality of the fluvial ecosystem.
Currently, the Fervença Green Corridor constitutes a route that invites the discovery of urban nature. Along its banks, visitors can appreciate the river's course and the accompanying vegetation, with some areas having greater tree density. The space offers a tranquil environment and is suitable for walks, providing a different perspective of the city of Bragança, where the Fervença River stands out as a vital and regenerated natural element.
