The Argozelo Mines Interpretive Center is located in Cortinha do Calvário, in the locality of Argozelo. This area is part of the "Mining Zone" (Zona das Minas), in the municipality of Vimioso. Its position in the village allows a direct connection to the landscape that was once shaped by intense mining activity, providing an authentic setting for the theme it addresses.
This space was designed to preserve and disseminate the history of the exploration of minerals such as tin and tungsten, which took place significantly in the Argozelo mines throughout the 20th century. The center allows visitors to understand the impact of this industry on the region, as well as the effort and experiences of the communities dedicated to it. It is a testament to the importance that mining had for the local identity.
Inside the center, there is an exhibition hall displaying a collection dedicated to Argozelo's mining saga. Through a collection of period photographs, historical documents, and various pieces and artifacts used in extraction operations, visitors can delve into the past and visualize the conditions and working environment of the miners. This exhibition is a fundamental link in recovering the collective memory of the activity.
In addition to its exhibition function, the Argozelo Mines Interpretive Center has an auditorium. This space is equipped for audiovisual content projection and can host conferences, lectures, and other initiatives. It serves as a meeting point and cultural hub for the community, highlighting the center's role as a catalyst for activities and a place for disseminating knowledge about Argozelo's industrial heritage and history.
