The Rural World Interpretation Centre is located in the town of Mogadouro, municipality of Mogadouro. It is situated in the Zava area, near the Juncal Stream, in surroundings that evoke the serenity of the rural environment and a deep connection with the region's natural landscape. Its establishment reflects the village's strong connection to its agricultural roots and the traditions of the Transmontano countryside.
This centre is dedicated to exploring and preserving the identity of Mogadouro and its intrinsic connection to the rural world. The village possesses a rich historical, cultural, gastronomic, and architectural heritage that intertwines with life in the countryside. The space was designed to consolidate and highlight the aspects that define local rurality, offering visitors a perspective on this heritage.
Inside the Interpretation Centre, visitors are invited to explore exhibitions that delve into ancestral agricultural practices, essential for the subsistence and culture of Trás-os-Montes. The journey covers fundamental cycles such as bread making, and the production processes of wine, olive oil, and honey. Themes related to livestock farming and other natural elements of the region, such as mushrooms, are also presented.
The exhibitions provide a multi-sensory experience, through interactive elements, projections, and environmental recreations, allowing for an immersion in the different seasons of the year and the scenarios of rural life. This format contributes to a more vivid understanding of the traditional methods and the effort that shaped the landscape and daily life of this community.
The Rural World Interpretation Centre also values the secular traditions and unique testimonies that comprise Mogadouro's cultural identity. Examples include the masks that represent the Winter Festivities of Trás-os-Montes and the presence of an ancient bagpipe, elements that allude to local folklore and musicality.
The space also integrates areas designed for learning and entertainment, including a room with interactive games intended to engage younger visitors. A multifunctional auditorium complements the Centre's offerings, hosting various educational activities and workshops that deepen knowledge about the vast rural heritage.
