The Georges Dussaud Photography Centre is located in the city of Bragança, more precisely on Rua Abílio Beça. Situated in the heart of the Sé, Santa Maria and Meixedo area, the space is cohesively integrated into the urban environment of the locality, being easily accessible and an integral part of the city's cultural itinerary.
Inaugurated in 2013, the Georges Dussaud Photography Centre is dedicated to hosting and disseminating photographic art, with a particular focus on the vast body of work by the French photographer Georges Dussaud. This cultural space is located on the first floor of the Paulo Quintela building, contributing to the city's artistic dynamism.
The centre's main collection consists of a remarkable set of photographs by Georges Dussaud, entirely in black and white. These images are the result of deep and dedicated work on the Trás-os-Montes region, commissioned by the Municipality of Bragança. Through the approximately two hundred works on display, visitors can immerse themselves in visual narratives that record life stories, the faces and gestures of men, women, and children, as well as the places, rituals, and work scenes of a rural Trás-os-Montes universe that has, in part, been transforming. The photographs capture unique moments, revealing a perspective that balances the documentary aspect with an artistic sensibility, always with a positive and poetic gaze on reality.
In addition to its permanent collection, the Georges Dussaud Photography Centre also features a space dedicated to temporary exhibitions. These shows provide an opportunity to explore different facets of photography and related themes, enriching the cultural offerings of the venue.
