Oleiros Castle is located in the parish of Urrós, municipality of Mogadouro, at an approximate altitude of 482 meters. It is situated on a rocky spur that extends over the cliffs of the Douro River, creating an elevated position from which the surrounding area is commanded.
The slopes are flanked to the West by the Costureira stream and to the East by the Colineãs stream, resulting in a series of deeply incised valleys and water lines that highlight the contrast between the schist stones and the river's flow.
Built on the vestiges of an ancient prehistoric hillfort, the fortified site was most significantly reutilized between the 9th and 10th centuries, during the Reconquista, serving as a watchtower and border control point.
Throughout the Middle Ages, the settlement developed near the walls benefited from natural protection and fertile lands, evolving into the village of Urrós. In 1990, the complex was classified as a Property of Public Interest, recognizing its historical and archaeological value.
The walled layout features a polygonal plan, approximately 130 m long by 40 m wide, built with dressed schist. Some sections of the wall still stand at about two meters high, revealing the original perimeter.
Inside the enclosure, alignments of ancient dwellings, fragments of columns and ceramics are preserved, as well as a collection of funerary steles that testify to the different phases of occupation, from the prehistoric to the medieval period.
