It is visible in front of the Casa do Povo (People's House), surrounded by an area where other large chestnut trees mark the surroundings.

Known as a true natural monument of the Terra Fria Transmontana, this chestnut tree is classified as a Public Interest tree. Its age is estimated to be millennial, having witnessed the passage of countless generations and eras. Natural Grandeur

With remarkable dimensions, the Chestnut Tree of Lagarelhos stands out as one of the chestnut trees with the largest perimeter in Portugal. It has a total height of around 14 meters, with a trunk perimeter approaching 13 meters at chest height, and a canopy that can reach about 17 to 21 meters in diameter. Its trunk, marked by age, reveals large cavities, characteristic of these secular trees, which underscore its grandeur and longevity.

Beyond its impressive size and age, the Chestnut Tree holds strong cultural and symbolic value for the local community. A unique tradition invites newlyweds to visit the tree on their wedding day, a gesture believed to bless the union.
