The Old Urrós Railway Station is located in this serene locality within the municipality of Mogadouro, in the district of Bragança. Immersed in a predominantly rural and tranquil landscape, this station is situated along the former route of the Sabor Line. Its secluded location, in the heart of Trás-os-Montes, offers an atmosphere of quietude that invites discovery and contemplation of the natural and historical surroundings.
This building represents one of the important remnants of the Sabor Line, a narrow-gauge railway that profoundly marked the mobility and development of the region. Its construction was completed in May 1938, connecting the Pocinho station, near the Douro River, to Duas Igrejas, near Miranda do Douro, on a route that extended for about 105 kilometers, passing through towns like Mogadouro. Passenger service closed in 1986, and the entire Sabor Line was decommissioned in January 1988, ending an era of railway transport in this area.
The old Urrós station building remains preserved, displaying the characteristic architecture of railway constructions of its time. It thus constitutes an authentic relic of a past of great dynamism, a place that stimulates the visitor's imagination. By observing its structure, it is possible to evoke the bustle of yesteryear, when trains and passengers filled the space, in a mental journey to a different period. The quietude that is experienced today contrasts significantly with the vitality that once existed, offering a unique perspective on the history of transportation and the impact of the closure of these lines on local life.
The environment surrounding the Old Urrós Railway Station is one of deep serenity, characterized by the quietude of the rural landscape. This space invites contemplation and reflection on the passage of time and the profound transformations of the region. The station, now silent and surrounded by nature, provides a unique experience of contact with a heritage that, although no longer active, retains its essence and a rich historical narrative, allowing the visitor to feel the memory that the place holds.
