The place known as Viso stands as one of the highest points in Celorico de Basto, reaching an altitude of 856 meters. It is located in an isolated manner, at the summit of a hill in the Union of Parishes of Caçarilhe and Infesta, municipality of Celorico de Basto, and is characterized by the presence of large granite outcrops. Its dominant position offers a wide and remarkable view over the Tâmega river basin, encompassing a landscape marked by pasture lands and dotted with pine trees.
At this elevated point stands the Chapel of Our Lady of Viso, also recognized as a sanctuary. Its original construction is believed to date back to the 17th century, although the building underwent profound renovations in subsequent centuries, namely in the 19th century, which altered its current facade, and in the 20th century, with interventions in its interior. Its 19th-century religious architecture features a longitudinal plan, with a single nave and chancel, and is built of granite ashlar, with a simple interior devoid of elaborate decorative elements. This place maintains a strong connection to faith, being a point of Marian devotion.
Beyond its historical and religious value, Viso stands out for its tranquil environment and natural surroundings. The place provides an ideal setting for those seeking the serenity of the countryside and unobstructed views. In the vicinity of the chapel, there is a spacious area designed for visitors' enjoyment, where a picnic park equipped with stone tables and benches can be found, inviting moments of rest. The surrounding landscape, with its granite elements and the vastness of the valley, offers a suggestive and photogenic backdrop.
