Situated on an elevated point in the locality of Serzedo, in the municipality of Guimarães, the Senhoras do Monte complex offers an experience of tranquility and spaciousness. The space is located in an area sharing the same name, the Senhoras do Monte urbanization, which underscores its importance as a local landmark. Its summit position provides a serene environment conducive to contemplating the surrounding landscape.

The Chapel: Architectural Features

The central element of Senhoras do Monte is its chapel, a robust construction in granite masonry. Its main façade, facing west, is distinguished by a simple portal and a cornice that tops the structure. The building consists of a nave, connected to a more recessed and lower-height chancel, and also an adjoining sacristy. A granite flagstone runs along the entire perimeter of the chapel, inviting circulation. Inside, the flooring is also granite, and the transition between the nave and the chancel is marked by a triumphal arch of simple yet effective design.

A Place of Faith and Contemplation

The Senhoras do Monte chapel is a meeting point for faith and a place of cultural significance. On its main altar are the images of three venerated Marian figures: Our Lady of the Mount, in the center, flanked by Our Lady of Lúbio Water and Our Lady of the Guiding Light. This ensemble evokes a sense of enduring devotion and tradition. The site is frequently visited by those seeking a moment of prayer or fellowship, testifying to its continuous role in the community's life. In the square in front of the chapel, there is also a wayside cross and some tombstones that pay homage to benefactors and caretakers, highlighting the history of care and dedication to the site.

Surrounding the chapel, a spacious square unfolds into a natural viewpoint. From this elevated point, the view extends over the vast northern landscape, offering an open panorama inviting observation. It is a spacious area that provides a sense of freedom and allows for a unique perspective of the region. The environment, characterized by an altitude of approximately 410 meters, contributes to an experience of quietness and appreciation for nature and the horizon.
