Parque das Camélias is located in Braga, in the parish of São José de São Lázaro, on one of the natural slopes surrounding the city center. This strategic position offers visitors a pleasant panoramic view over Braga's urban fabric, making it a close and easily accessible green space within the city environment.

A Space for Leisure and Contemplation

With a considerable area of about 2.5 hectares, Parque das Camélias was designed for leisure and tranquility. Its pedestrian paths invite relaxed strolls, while various benches and tables provide places for a break and social interaction. It is a space where one can simply relax and appreciate nature in an urban setting.

One of the park's distinctive features is its viewpoint, equipped with a bench, from where it is possible to contemplate the surrounding landscape. Along the paths, visitors will also find elements such as drinking fountains and public lighting that allows its enjoyment at different times of the day.

Nature and Sustainability

The park's name reflects the notable presence of camellias, which stand out among the floral species. In addition, hundreds of trees and shrubs were planted, with a clear focus on native species such as holly, strawberry tree, cork oak, Portuguese oak, birch, and hawthorn, contributing to increased biodiversity and the creation of natural shaded areas.

Parque das Camélias is also an example of environmental innovation, functioning as a "living laboratory" for experimenting with climate change adaptation solutions. This is evident, for example, in sustainable water management, with the restoration of a tank and the use of rainwater for irrigation, and in the use of permeable pavements on its paths, which facilitate natural drainage. This approach earned it national recognition, having been awarded the "Good Practices" prize at the Essência do Ambiente Awards.

Details that Enrich the Experience

The experience in the park is enriched by details that connect nature with history. A staircase crosses the space, revealing at one of its "entrance gates" a wall from an old farm, symbolizing the connection of the present to the memory of the place. Informative panels on sustainability and the municipality's environmental strategy are also present, inviting a more conscious and educational visit.
