The Chapel of Santa Luzia is located in the village of Requião, within the area known as Boavista, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão.
It is situated in a square or small central space, with a recently enhanced churchyard, serving as a landmark in the surrounding area.
The churchyard of the Chapel of Santa Luzia and the square where it is located recently underwent a requalification. This work aimed to make the area more welcoming and functional for visitors and residents alike.
The intervention included improvements to the existing pavements and the creation of a new pedestrian path that facilitates direct access to the chapel from the square. The space invites lingering and serene contemplation.
Next to the chapel, a cruzeiro (stone cross) stands out. This symbolic element, characteristic of the Portuguese religious and cultural landscape, was maintained and appropriately integrated into the square's requalification, preserving the local identity.
The area around the Chapel of Santa Luzia traditionally serves as a meeting point for the inhabitants of Requião. The renovation of the churchyard sought to reinforce this vocation of the place to bring people together, reflecting the chapel's importance in the community's life.
