Apúlia Norte Beach is located in the town of Apúlia, in the municipality of Esposende, on the Atlantic coast. Integrated into the town's seafront, this beach is part of an urbanization that follows the coastline. Its inclusion in the Litoral Norte Natural Park lends the surroundings an atmosphere of conservation and respect for coastal nature.
With an extensive sandy area, Apúlia Norte Beach is marked by the presence of a dune cordon that shapes the landscape. Atop these dunes stand five old windmills, conical granite and schist constructions that add a rustic and distinctive touch to the scenery. These mills, once used for grinding cereals, are now testimonies of local history and iconic elements of the beach. Near the waterline, rocky formations emerge, enriching the natural environment, while the small Ribeira da Lagoa stream flows into the central area of the sand.
Apúlia Norte Beach's sand is wide and invites visitors to enjoy the seaside. The southern section of the beach, facing southwest, benefits from some protection against the nortada, a characteristic regional wind. This windy condition makes the beach particularly sought after by those who enjoy water sports. A natural peculiarity of the beach is the abundance of seaweed. This element gave rise to an emblematic figure of the Minho coast: the 'Sargaceiro da Apúlia' (Apúlia Seaweed Collector), who was dedicated to collecting and using seaweed as fertilizer for agricultural fields, illustrating a deep and ancient connection of the community to the sea and its resources.
