The Pergoim Bridge is located in the serene village of Pergoim, in the municipality of Terras de Bouro, Braga region. Set in a rural environment, this structure stands over the small Ribeiro da Roda stream. Although visible from the village's houses, the bridge remains in a relatively isolated setting, surrounded by cultivated fields and the characteristic vegetation of the wooded area, where oaks and willows stand out.
Dating, by conjecture, from the 17th or 18th centuries, the Pergoim Bridge is an enduring testament to modern-era engineering. Since its construction, it has fulfilled its original function as a crossing point, connecting paths and facilitating movement in the region. Its longevity underscores the importance it had and continues to have for the local community, keeping alive the memory of ancient routes.
This bridge features a structure notable for its simplicity and robustness. Its deck, slightly gabled, rests on a single round arch, a classic architectural feature. The construction was entirely made with granite ashlar blocks, with wide and resistant voussoirs forming the arch. The solidity of the granite gives the bridge a striking presence and a rustic aesthetic, perfectly integrated into the surrounding Minho landscape. Until recently, the bridge's railings were made of iron bars and wires, reflecting its more utilitarian nature.
The location where the Pergoim Bridge is situated offers an atmosphere of tranquility, inviting moments of peace and contemplation. The view over the Ribeiro da Roda stream, flanked by fields and the oak and willow woodland, creates a picturesque natural setting. This is a place where one can observe the harmony between human work and the natural environment, providing an experience of serenity to those who visit the area.
