Porto Seguro Park is situated on Monte de São Jorge, in the city of Fafe. It is recognized as one of the great green spaces in the urban area, serving as an important lung for the locality. Its elevated position allows for views of the city, providing an extensive panorama over Fafe.
This natural space has a unique history that connects it to the emigrants from Fafe who, upon returning from Brazil, known as “Torna-viagem” (Returnees), donated the lands that allowed for its creation. This act of solidarity confers a symbolic value to the park, representing a testament to the generosity and attachment to their homeland by those who returned.
With an area of approximately ten hectares, Porto Seguro Park is distinguished by its abundant and varied vegetation. In recent times, efforts have been made to safeguard local biodiversity, through the removal of invasive species, such as mimosa, and the planting of autochthonous trees, such as the Portuguese oak (carvalho alvarinho) and the Pyrenean oak (carvalho negral). These actions aim to strengthen the ecological balance of the landscape, contributing to the ecosystem's resilience.
The park offers various facilities aimed at well-being and physical activity. It includes a fitness circuit for walking or running, areas dedicated to picnics, and zones prepared for traditional games. Also noteworthy is the existence of a Street Workout park, with equipment specifically designed for exercises such as "Pull Ups," making it one of the first installations of its kind at a national level.
