The park is dedicated to the memory of Paulo Gonçalves, a notable motorcycle racer native to Esposende, affectionately nicknamed "Speedy". His sporting career was marked by numerous successes, including the conquest of 23 national titles in disciplines such as motocross, supercross, and enduro. Furthermore, he stood out on the international scene by becoming the World Champion of Cross Country Rallies in 2013 and achieving a remarkable second place in the iconic Dakar Rally in 2015, a race in which he participated for thirteen editions. His dedication to sport, combined with a demeanor of great humanity, earned him worldwide recognition and several distinctions, reinforcing his role as an example of overcoming challenges.

In the center of the park stands an imposing sculpture that immortalizes the figure of Paulo Gonçalves and his motorcycle. This artistic work, approximately five meters high and weighing eight tons, depicts the rider in full race, navigating a desert dune, with a volume that doubles his real size. The sculpture's design aims to convey the dynamism and energy that characterized Paulo Gonçalves' life and sporting career, celebrating his tireless pursuit of excellence and the values that made him a benchmark in sport and the community.
