The Azenha River Park is located in Vila Frescainha (São Martinho), in the municipality of Barcelos. This space was designed to strengthen the city's connection with the Cávado River and its urban fabric. It functions as a direct link between the town center and the riverbank, offering new perspectives on the interaction between the urban environment and the surrounding nature.
The park features a defined riverside route, ideal for both walking and cycling. This path allows visitors to explore the riverfront, enjoying the scenery and the tranquility of the location. Its design also seeks to re-establish connections with the other side of the river and with a river beach located further south, improving connectivity and the experience of those exploring the area.
The design of the Azenha River Park took into account the natural unevenness of the terrain. It integrates a set of platforms and staircases that adapt harmoniously to the topography, guiding visitors to the water level. This architectural approach facilitates access and, at the same time, creates interesting viewpoints of the river and its surroundings. The choice of materials, predominantly exposed concrete for benches and path edges, is intentionally minimalist, highlighting the vegetation and contributing to a cohesive and serene atmosphere throughout the park.
