Bom Jesus Park is integrated into the area of the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte, on a hillside overlooking the city of Braga. Its elevated position gives it a unique setting. It is located in the area known as Senhora da Rocha, within the locality of Bom Jesus, in the municipality of Braga, benefiting from a natural and scenic environment characteristic of the region.
The history of Bom Jesus Park dates back to the early 19th century. In 1806, through a royal charter, the wasteland located in the vicinity of the Bom Jesus Church was donated to the sanctuary. This act marked the beginning of extensive work of transformation, with the purpose of creating a green and pleasant space. Over the years, trees were planted, clearings designed, and paths opened, shaping the landscape in a planned and careful manner.
Currently, the park constitutes a vast densely wooded area, ideal for those seeking tranquility. Its route reveals a network of trails, suitable for walks, which intertwine through the vegetation. The space integrates various gardens, which invite contemplation, and also includes artificial lakes, one of which is large, with the presence of boats. The landscape is also marked by terraces and some structures that imitate grottoes, giving a distinct and scenic touch to the park's environment.
