The Cupertino de Miranda Foundation Museum is located at the Foundation's headquarters, in the heart of Vila Nova de Famalicão.
Situated in Praça D. Maria II, the museum is located in a central area of the city, easy to identify and access, integrating seamlessly into the urban and cultural environment of Vila Nova de Famalicão.
This museum is dedicated to the dissemination and study of Modern and Contemporary Art, with a particular focus on Portuguese Surrealism.
The permanent collection includes a vast array of works, such as paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, and other elements, representative of this artistic movement. It is possible to appreciate works by undeniable names of Surrealism in Portugal, such as Mário Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, and Fernando Lemos, who help tell the history and importance of this artistic current in the country.
The museum integrates the Portuguese Surrealism Centre (CPS), a department created to deepen knowledge about this artistic movement and its relevance.
The CPS functions as a reference point for the study and dissemination of Surrealism at national and international levels, reinforcing the Foundation's role in preserving and valuing this cultural heritage.
The museum falls under the scope of the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, a private institution of general interest with cultural and social objectives, established in 1963.
Initially inaugurated in 1972, the museum reopened to the public in 1994, subsequently consolidating its vocation for modern art and, notably, for the safeguarding and promotion of Portuguese Surrealism.
