The Lomar Chapel stands in the Lomar urbanization, southeast of the center of Braga, situated on a narrow street with irregular cobblestones. Surrounded by single-family granite houses, it occupies a discreet spot on a small elevation that grants it some visibility over the adjacent hillside.
Access is by foot or light vehicle, in a tranquil environment where traditional housing intermingles with spontaneous vegetation typical of Minho.
This small hermitage displays a facade of exposed granite, a material abundant in the region. The triangular pediment culminates in a stone cross, while the straight lintel portal is framed by simple pilasters. In the center of the facade, a quadrangular window allows natural light to enter the single internal nave.
The lateral finish features granite spires that reinforce the vernacular character of the construction. Although there are no precise records of its construction date, the dressing technique suggests the late 18th or early 19th century.
Around the chapel, a low stone wall supports an informal garden, with rose bushes and wild foliage that lend color and fragrance to the space. The tranquility of the place invites a brief pause, allowing observation of the slopes covered with vineyards and the rural landscape extending to the west.
On clear days, the light enhances the granite textures and creates striking contrasts on the facade. It is a place that offers a moment of serenity, ideal for those who appreciate religious heritage in harmony with the greenery of Minho.
