The Church of Figueiredo is located in the eponymous locality, part of the union of parishes of Amares and Figueiredo, in the municipality of Amares. The building is situated on Rua de São Pedro, nestled in an environment that still retains its rural and somewhat isolated character.
This church is dedicated to Saint Peter, also known as the Church of Saint Peter of Figueiredo. Historical documents indicate its existence in 1706. According to records from that period, compiled by Father Carvalho da Costa, it was a patronage abbey of the Diocese of Braga, in a settlement that then had about 63 inhabitants.
This ancient mention underlines the importance and long-standing presence of the church in the religious and community life of the region, dating back more than three centuries.
Maintaining its original function over the centuries, the Church of Figueiredo is today the parish church. It continues to be a central point for the local community, serving as a place of worship and gathering the inhabitants of Figueiredo.
For visitors, observing the church in activity allows direct contact with the identity and traditions of the local population, demonstrating the continuous relevance of this building in the life of the parish.
