The Fafe Press Museum is located within the urban perimeter of the city of Fafe. It is situated in the area known as Bairro da Cumieira, a zone that is an integral part of the local fabric.
Its position in the city makes it an accessible cultural point of interest for anyone exploring Fafe and its spaces.
This museum space is dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the press in Fafe. Its main collection results from safeguarding elements related to two newspapers that marked the life of the local community: "O Desforço", a publication originating in 1892, and the "Almanaque Ilustrado de Fafe", which began to be published in 1909. Both titles are no longer published, but the museum keeps their memory alive.
A significant part of the museum focuses on the equipment that was essential for newspaper production. It is possible to observe up close the evolution of typographic work over time.
The collection includes a printing press dated 1885, representing the oldest manual printing techniques. There are also more recent machines that demonstrate the transition to mechanical typesetting methods. The collection also features the engravings used to illustrate the pages of these publications.
Beyond the machines, the museum offers a perspective on the human context of journalistic production. The office environment of Artur Pinto Bastos, who was the director of the newspapers, is recreated, allowing visitors to understand a little about the daily life and organization behind the editorial and printing processes.
Diverse documentation complements this recreation, enriching the understanding of the history and the people who shaped the press of Fafe.
