The chapel stands near the center of Escudeiros, on a slight elevation that stands out in the urban fabric of narrow streets and granite walls. Around it, traditional houses create a tranquil atmosphere, interrupted only by the aromas of earth and vegetation.
The outdoor space includes a small walled churchyard, where olive trees and deciduous trees can be observed, offering a corner of calm and reflection right in the heart of the village.
Built in the 17th century, the chapel originated from local devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary, serving several generations in religious celebrations and small pilgrimages. Its origins are linked to the farming families who inhabited the region, preserving its original simplicity to this day.
In the 19th century, an intervention was carried out on the roof and structure, with the replacement of some tiles and reinforcement of the walls, without significantly altering the building's primitive form.
The main facade is made of dressed granite, with a straight lintel portal surmounted by a circular oculus. The side walls, devoid of ornaments, have only narrow slits that regulate natural light.
The gabled roof rests on robust structural walls, while the churchyard creates a slightly elevated platform, enhancing the chapel's presence in the urban landscape.
Inside, the atmosphere is sober: the walls are of simple plaster, painted in a light tone, and the floor is made of traditional terracotta tiles. The wooden ceiling, divided into three planes, maintains its vernacular design.
On the main altar, two small 17th-century tile panels stand out, quite worn by time, illustrating discreet devotional scenes. The simple carved altarpiece and the octagonal baptismal font complete the ensemble, lending a discreet touch of color and texture.
