The Rua Direita Fountain is located in the Serralho area, in Calendário, a locality that is part of the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão. It is situated in a triangular square, a space paved with granite slabs that marks one of the old main axes of the village. This central position offers a tranquil environment, ideal for a brief stop while exploring the urban area.
Built in granite, this fountain exhibits a markedly neoclassical design, distinguished by its circular tank shape and the presence of a central basin topped by an obelisk. Despite its neoclassical base, the structure incorporates decorative elements of Baroque inspiration, such as the elaborate acanthus leaves that adorn the column supporting the basin. Its four zoomorphic spouts, in the expressive shape of lions, give a peculiar artistic touch to the piece.
With its probable construction between the 18th and 19th centuries, the Rua Direita Fountain represents a valuable testament to the past of Vila Nova de Famalicão. It is a unique example of this typology in the municipality, standing out for its particular architecture. Although its initial function was to provide water, this fountain currently plays a cultural and recreational role, serving as an ornamental fountain that beautifies public spaces and invites contemplation.
