The hillfort stands on the summit of a hill that dominates the northern slope of Braga, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and offering a wide view over the city. In the vicinity, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Consolação stands out, framing the site in an atmosphere of serene contemplation.
The terrain is gentle, punctuated by stone walls and open areas that preserve traces of the ancient fortified settlement. The rural surroundings lend a restful character to the site, making it possible to appreciate, on clear days, the houses of Braga in the background.
Monte da Consolação hosted a proto-historic community, later reoccupied by the Romans. Sections of wall and vestiges of a defensive ditch are preserved, evidence of the fortification system that protected the settlement.
On the surface, fragments of common pottery, circular millstones, and Roman tiles of the tegula and imbrex type appear, testimony to the prolonged use of the site from the Iron Age to the period of Bracara Augusta.
The houses of Braga gain dimension in the distance, complementing the landscape of gentle hills and agricultural fields. The stony soil, interspersed with patches of grass, highlights the contrast between the ancient remains and the verdant setting.
The wall fragments, partially covered by lichens, and the contours of the ancient ditch provide interesting vantage points for those who appreciate the superposition of history and nature.
