Vizela Castle stands in the parish of São Miguel e São João, integrated into the urban landscape of Caldas de Vizela. Its striking presence lends a special uniqueness to the city's entrances, standing out as one of its landmarks. From the building's central tower, one can enjoy a wide view over the Thermal Park and the Walkways, elements that invite exploration of the natural and urban surroundings.
This building, locally known as the Castle, despite not being a medieval fortification, boasts an imposing architecture that evokes the grandeur of a castle. Built in the early years of the 20th century, around 1905, it was an initiative of the doctor and politician Armindo de Freitas Ribeiro de Faria. Its original design aimed to house the Town Hall, a purpose that gave it civic relevance from an early stage. Vizela Castle represents a centenary landmark in the municipality's identity, considered its most emblematic building.
Vizela Castle has been undergoing a recovery and rehabilitation project, which aims not only to restore its traditional physical characteristics but also to adapt it for new cultural functions. This effort's primary objective is to reintegrate the space into the life of the community and its visitors, strengthening local heritage. An integral part of this project is the creation of the Mota Museum, which will house a remarkable collection of approximately two thousand motorcycle models, both national and international, recognized as one of the most important in Europe. Furthermore, the building will serve as a venue for various cultural activities, consolidating itself as a vibrant center of enjoyment and a point of attraction for those visiting Vizela.
