Casa de Santa Cruz do Igo is located in Campo das Carvalheiras, in the center of Braga. It is situated in front of the Cruzeiro and Casa Pimentel, forming an important architectural ensemble in the city.
The house was originally a hospice of the Order of Canons Regular of Saint Augustine, linked to the Monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra. It is believed that the building was constructed from the union of several small houses in the region, and vestiges of these old constructions are still visible. Over time, the house was expanded, including more windows and iron balconies. A gate decorated with religious symbols of the Crúzios friars was also added, in addition to one of the city's "Calvaries," which is of great importance during Holy Week.
- The facade of the house is marked by a religious representation of the Paschal Lamb, the "Agnus Dei," visible above the main door.
- The border around the door includes Latin inscriptions that refer to the religious symbolism of the time.
Casa de Santa Cruz do Igo has great religious relevance, both for its connection with the Order of Canons Regular of Saint Augustine and for the presence of Holy Week symbols, which are fundamental to the local religious tradition.
