The Chapel of Santa Marinha is located in the Segures area, an integral part of the locality of Landim, in the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão. Its position is integrated into the local fabric of this parish.
The Chapel of Santa Marinha boasts a history spanning many centuries, with its origins lost in time. The first documented references to this site are remarkably old, dating back to around 1220. At this time, during the Inquiries carried out during the reign of D. Afonso II, the building was already mentioned, although it was referred to at the time by the designation of Church.
Later, in the catalog of churches organized in 1320, the site is described as a chaplaincy dependent on the Monastery of Landim. This mention is relevant for indicating its transformation from a church to a chapel and its connection to an important religious institution in the region during that period. Its presence in historical records has been maintained throughout the centuries, being also referenced, for example, in the Parish Memoirs of 1758.
The historical and cultural value of the Chapel of Santa Marinha is formally recognized and safeguarded. Since 2015, the building has been classified and protected by the Municipal Master Plan of Vila Nova de Famalicão.
Its inclusion in the Urban Planning Map as Built and Archaeological Heritage ensures its preservation and highlights its importance in the context of local heritage for future generations.
