The Chapel of São Frutuoso is located in the parish of Real, Dume e Semelhe, in the municipality of Braga, Portugal.
The chapel was built by Bishop São Frutuoso in the second half of the 7th century and was originally known as Chapel of São Salvador de Montélios.
The toponym "Montélios" means "Small Mount", and several donations from the 9th and 10th centuries refer to this mount.
In the 17th century, the chapel was incorporated into the Convent of São Francisco in Braga, whose church is now the headquarters of the parish of São Jerónimo de Real.
The Chapel of São Frutuoso was classified as a National Monument in 1944, due to its historical and architectural value.
The chapel is small in size and presents a pre-Romanesque style, with Suevo-Visigothic influences and possible inspirations in Byzantine mausoleums.
The interior of the chapel is considered a unique example of the Architecture of the Galician High Middle Ages.
The Chapel of São Frutuoso has been carefully preserved over the years, allowing visitors an authentic experience of the cultural heritage of the region.
